In May of 2016, in Louisville, KY, two brothers went missing. Friends felt their absence from the basketball court, teachers noticed their empty classroom chairs, and grandparents searched. Soon, the community would learn that the fate of these brothers had already been decided; Larry Ordway, 14, and Maurice Gordon, 16, had been murdered and their bodies desecrated.
Days before, another loss ripped through Louisville. Christopher Jones was murdered one night as he made his way to his front door. It was a fast news story that may have gone unnoticed, had Larry and Maurice not gone missing shortly thereafter.
The suspect was a man the neighborhood warned their young people about. A rapper and a thorn in the community’s side, he gathered teenagers around him as disciples of mayhem.
Maurice and Larry were close, beloved brothers. Christopher Jones was an innocent man, simply walking home. All three would meet their fate at the hands of someone who chose to replace his soul with violence, rage, and cruelty.
In this gritty episode of Sword and Scale, we unveil how a suspicious relationship turned deadly and gouged out the heart of multiple families. Interviews with victim family members, a journalist, and a man fighting violence in his city, provide insight into what Christopher, Maurice, and Larry faced in their last moments and the reckoning an entire city faces now that they are gone.
